I believe in simplicity. I believe in feelings and family, friendship and fidelity, forgiveness and fortitude. I believe in miracles, meditation, motherhood and make believe and that music is the only real magic this world has ever seen. I believe in concocting and consuming colorful cocktails and fussing over and feasting on fabulous food. I believe in living out loud. I believe in laughing until your face hurts and loving until your heart breaks. I believe in behaving boldly and when warranted, badly, taking bubble baths and being barefoot. I believe in poetry, puppies and playing in the park. I believe in seeking without ceasing that which sings to my soul and strengthens my spirit. I believe in dancing in the rain and digging in the dirt. I believe in honest expression and the golden rule. I believe in Nature and naps and that naïveté is sometimes necessary. I believe in goodness and gratitude, grit and grace. I believe in unity and the power of the universe. I believe in being authentically awesome. I believe in being better today than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow. I believe in challenges and change and growing pains. I believe in the inherent worth of every creature, being and life force on this planet. I believe in honoring the individual journeys and paths of people whether I understand them or not. I believe in letting people live their truth and trusting that it’s right for them. I believe in lifting up and letting go. I believe that death is just as sacred an experience as birth and that it is never, ever an end.

Mostly, I just believe that I’m never going to stop learning what it is I believe.

“All love is expansion, all selfishness is contraction. Love is therefore the only law of life. He who loves lives, he who is selfish is dying. Therefore love for love’s sake, because it is law of life, just as you breathe to live.”

—Swami Vivekananda

“Struggling and suffering are the essence of a life worth living. If you’re not pushing yourself beyond the comfort zone, if you’re not demanding more from yourself - expanding and learning as you go - you’re choosing a numb existence. You’re denying yourself an extraordinary trip.”

— Dean Karnazes

“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.”

—Louise Erdrich, The Painted Drum

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: It goes on.”

—Robert Frost

Ben Howard

The Wolves
These Waters

Ben Howard - “The Wolves”

Falling from high places, falling through lost spaces,
Now that we’re lonely, now that there’s nowhere to go.
Watching from both sides, these clock towers burning up,
I lost my time here, I lost my patience with it all.

And we lost faith, in the arms of love.

Where you been hiding lately, where you been hiding from the news?
Cause we’ve been fighting lately, we’ve been fighting with the wolves.
With the wolves. With the wolves.
Red tongues and hands.

Falling from high places, falling through lost spaces,
Now that we’re lonely, now that we’re so far from home.
Watching from both sides, these towers been tumbling down,
I lost my mind here, I lost my patience with the lord.
Oh, with the lord

And we lost faith, oh in the arms of love
(Love love love)

Where you been hiding lately, where you been hiding from the news?
Cause we’ve been fighting lately, we’ve been fighting with the wolves.
With the wolves. With the wolves.
Red tongues and hands.

Oh, we lost faith in the arms of love.
(Love love love love love love)

Red tongues and hands.

“Your soul is serene because it knows how to magnetize love. Your soul does not struggle or work hard for love. It experiences an abundance of love all the time. You can experience the magnetic quality of soul love and draw love and all good things to you. Sense the magnetic quality of this field of love that emanates from your heart center. Imagine magnetic rings of love spiraling out from your heart center, drawing love to you in all its forms, aspects, and expressions. As you radiate soul love, you are magnetic to the beauty and love within people and to all good things that the universe has to offer.”

Florence and The Machine

Shake It Out (Acoustic)
Ceremonials

Florence + The Machine - “Shake It Out (Acoustic)”

And I’ve been a fool and I’ve been blind
I can never leave the past behind
I can see no way, I can see no way

I’m always dragging that horse around
All of these questions, such a mournful sound
Tonight I’m gonna bury that horse in the ground
‘Cause I like to keep my issues drawn
It’s always darkest before the dawn.

Shake it out, shake it out
Shake it out, shake it out uh-oh
Shake it out, shake it out
Shake it out, shake it out uh-oh
And it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back
so shake him off uh-oh

And I am done with my graceless heart
so tonight I’m gonna cut it out and then restart
‘Cause I like to keep my issues drawn
It’s always darkest before the dawn.

Shake it out, shake it out
Shake it out, shake it out uh-oh
Shake it out, shake it out
Shake it out, shake it out uh-oh
And it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back
so shake him off uh-oh

And you tried to dance with the devil on your back
Given half the chance, would I take any of it back?
It’s a fine romance but it’s left me so undone
It’s always darkest before the dawn

And I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t
So here’s to drinks in the dark at the end of my rope
And I’m ready to suffer and I’m ready to hope
It’s a shot in the dark aimed right at my throat
‘Cause looking for heaven found a devil in me
Looking for heaven found a devil in me
But why the hell I’m gonna let it happen to me?

Shake it out, shake it out
Shake it out, shake it out uh-oh
Shake it out, shake it out
Shake it out, shake it out uh-oh
And it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back
so shake him off uh-oh

Shake it out, shake it out
Shake it out, shake it out uh-oh
Shake it out, shake it out
Shake it out, shake it out uh-oh
And it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back
so shake him off uh-oh
